Yana Marshall
Yana Ungermann-Marshall is a writer, artist and Information Professional currently working at Altadena Public Library as a Reference Librarian on weekends. She is a local history author, having written two books about La Canada and Flintridge for Arcadia Publishers. She has written children's books and poetry, as well as non-fiction. Her hobbies include painting in water-based oils and volunteering at the Pasadena Humane Society and the Pasadena Museum of History. She holds two bachelors degrees: one in English and one in Art from Immaculate Heart College. She received a California Teaching Credential from UCLA and CSUN, and later went on to receive an M.A. in Humanities and an MLIS at San Jose State University. As a Reader at Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens she able to do research for her writing projects. Her love for the environment and ecological causes has kept her active in many associations, such as the Union of Concerned Scientists, Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters, WWF, Greenpeace, the California Native Plant Society and the Nature Conservancy. Before going back to work part time in a library and do freelance writing and artwork, she taught Local History classes at Glendale Community College near her home town of La Canada. She spends her leisure time with her husband Michael and their cats and birds.
